Summer solstice is great because it gives us the most time to enjoy in one day. The longest day of the year! But that’s rather a strange thing because when you find yourself in a great location, surrounded with people you love, time never seems too long. What’s supposed to be the longest day actually feels like the shorter. Let’s call it “quality time”.
From a photographic perspective, solstice is a gift when the weather is good. The light is just amazing at the end of the day and the golden hour is maximized. I shot this old fountain in a garden in Saint-Paul de Vence. The light just falls nicely on the rock and roses, every leaf has a softness that makes you forget how painful it could be if you grab one of the stem and touch the thorns. This photo is all about the opposite : warmth, softness, fragility, beauty and even romance.
While this is not Fountain of Youth, it certainly feels good looking at it and even smell the roses when you stand close to it. I hope you like it.
